Research Exploring Spiritual Emergencies and the Navigation of Psychological Crises

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Have you experienced a spiritual emergency?

A psychological crisis that you now view as spiritually meaningful?

I’m conducting research to explore how people make sense of these experiences and what healing or growth may have followed.

Inclusion Criteria

I am seeking individuals who

Are 18 years or older

Experienced a psychological crisis 2+ years ago

View that crisis as spiritually significant

Are emotionally stable and have support (e.g., therapist)

What Participation Involves

Participation in this research involves two on-on-one interviews (lasting 60-90 minutes each, conducted either in-person or online) and a written reflection exploring your experience of psychological crisis and the meaning you have made from it.

Time Commitment

In total, your participation will involve approximately 3.5 to 6 hours of your time over the course of the study (August 2025 – November 2025) with flexibility in scheduling to support your availability and comfort.

This research is being conducted by University of Alberta researchers.
